The Secret Garden is a much-loved children's book that is still important today, and has been made into a successful film.
Frances Hodgson Burnett was born in Manchester, England in 1849. When she was sixteen years old, she and her family emigrated to Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. She wrote a lot of very popular books for children. Her most famous novel, Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886) started a fashion in velvet suits for small boys!

The Secret Garden is a much-loved children's book that is still popular today, and has been made into a successful film. The story of how two sad, unwanted children find happiness by tending an abandoned garden delights children and adults of today as much as it did when it was first written in 1911.
