Swapping Teachers

Swapping Teachers
Have you ever had an unkind teacher, one who shouts at you and makes you feel angry, or one who gives you too much homework? Perhaps you have experienced much worse and you have had a horrible head teacher like Miss Bomburst.

For Katrina Patty and Helen school life couldn't get much worse, but luckily for them they are being taught by Miss March who makes it bearable.

One dreadful day however, bad news comes their way and they have to risk everything to save their favourite teacher Miss March from the horrible plans of their hideous headmistress.
Using her delight in mischief and a love for characters, Winnie has created a fabulous story about friendship and determination which children will enjoy. She is an avid reader who carries with her the influences and passions of a number of respected authors. In Swapping Teachers, Winnie draws upon these influences, while embodying the unique and distinct character of Hong Kong.

At first glance, this is a story of a group of rebellious students fighting against authorities in school with their practical jokes. Parents may not find it amusing, teachers may even feel offended. Yet, deep down, it represents the desire of children for a relaxing and friendly environment for learning at school. It shouts loud and clear their cherish for a teacher-student relationship with mutual understanding and respect. They believe in fairness and righteousness. They have the courage to stand up to adversity and dictatorship.

This is Winnie's first endeavor to write a story book. It caught me by surprise to learn that she attempted to do it in English instead of using her mother tongue Chinese. Honestly, I would not imagine my 10-year old brat be able to finish such a "major" undertaking without any help from her parents. In this book, I can find part of Winnie in Patty, Katrina and Helen. I felt like I have entered the tree house (Winnie's inner world) to meet with my daughter. Between the lines, I get to know my daughter from a different perspective.

I hope children would enjoy reading this book, but not to practice all the tricks. I hope parents and teachers would also enjoy this book, as it unveils the true self of children of this generation.
