Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights
The story was set in Wuthering Heights, when Mr. Earnshaw brought home a dirty and ragged boy named Heathcliff. After the death of Mr. Earnshaw, Hindley, Mr. Earnshaw's son, treated Heathcliff cruelly. When Heathcliff knew that Catherine, Mr. Earnshaw's daughter, would marry Edgar Linton instead of him, he left the Heights. In order to take revenge, Heathcliff married Isabella, Edgar's sister. As time went by, Catherine, Hindley, Isabella, and Edgar died one after another, leaving their children in the power of the wicked Heathcliff. Not until Heathcliff's death did the revenge stop.

Emily Brontë (1818-1848) was born and brought up in Yorkshire, the north of England. Emily and her two sisters, Charlotte (1816-1855), and Anne (1820-1849) all became famous novelists. The loneliness of the Yorkshire moors had a huge influence on the works of the Brontë sisters.

Emily and her sisters spent most of their time writing. Unfortunately, Emily's writing career was cut short because of illness. Like all her siblings, she died of tuberculosis at the early age of 30. Emily wrote only one novel - her romantic masterpiece Wuthering Heights (1847).
