The New Senior Secondary (NSS) English Language Education Curriculum builds upon language development established in Key Stages 1-3. Teachers are developing instructional strategies and resources to prepare students for the modules of the Elective Part. To support this, the Regional NET Coordinating Team (RNCT) has produced the NETworking series: Using Debate in the English Classroom is part of the series.
The lessons provided in this resource package can be used to prepare students for the Learning English Through Debating Module, as well as in regular English oral and writing lessons. Debating can be fun for the whole class and does not have to be taken to the competitive level.
In recognition of NETs' contributions to teaching debating skills in Hong Kong secondary schools, their experience and expertise was called upon to assist with this publication. NETs have actively involved their students in competitive debating, forming school teams and holding inter-school debates since 1998.
This resource package highlights debate training activities conducted by past and present NETs.
