Learning the Geography of China through Reading (Part 2): The human environment

“Learning the Geography of China through Reading (Part 2): The human environment” is the second part of the reading materials on Geography of China produced by the Personal, Social and Humanities Education Section. It aims at promoting “reading to learn” and providing supplementary reading materials for students in learning the human environment of China.

The reading materials in the package are divided into two parts: (A) Basic Reading; and (B) Further Reading. “Basic Reading” includes 6 chapters. Through reading the materials in this part, students can have basic understanding on the urban development, industrial development, agriculture, population, transport and environmental pollution of China. For students interested to learn more about the human environment of China, two related issues, “sustainable development” and “development of Zhujiang Delta as a transport and logistics hub in China”, are included in Part (B) to enrich their knowledge. Besides, suggested questions for thinking and related online resources are included in each chapter for teachers’ and students’ reference. The materials in this package are by no means exhaustive and teachers should modify them to suit the needs, interests and abilities of their students.
