Tropical rain forests are the oldest kind of living ecosystem on Earth. Rain forests cover less that 2% of Earth's surface but are home to more than half of all the animal and plant species. Animals are active in the rain forest both night and day. Each has its own special way of living. Most of the rain forests have been destroyed in the last 50 years by people.
